Rx: Read A Book

"Read a good book and call me in the morning."

That's what I wish a doctor would prescribe
when I'm feeling a little under the weather.

Not that I ever wait until I'm sick,
you understand.

Here's a few I finished in the last few weeks:

The Pink Suit by Nicole Mary Kelby
(Fascinating, especially if you love sewing.)

A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler
(What else needs to be said, it's Anne Tyler!)

Persuasion by Jane Austen
(My favorite Austen.)

Beauty by John O'Donohue
(Read a little at a time, just lovely!)

Pilgrim Inn by Elizabeth Goudge
(Must have now read this book a dozen times since I bought it in my
doctor's office in the 1980s. Doesn't everyone have a doctor who sells old books?)

The Right Attitude to Rain by Alexander McCall Smith
(Started over in McCall Smith's Isabel Dalhousie Novels.
This is the 3rd in the series.
I take them to bed with me for my winding down book.)

But wait, there's one more book in that stack
and today I'm giving myself permission to drop
everything and lose myself in...

The Mystery of Lucy and the Dark Woods
by Diana Kosmoski

That's right, our own Nana Diana Takes A Break
has written a book!

I got mine through Amazon but I went through her blog link
just in case that helps!

Here is the link to her blog for the rare person
who doesn't know this charming, funny
woman who is the soul of integrity.

Now, I'm going to pretend that I just got off the phone
with my doctor and he told me to:

"Read a good book and call me in the morning."

First sentence: Lucy heard her mother, Ellen, calling her.

Don't bother me, R.H.
I'm reading, I mean I'm sick.

  1. Dewena, Yes, Diana wrote a book! And I'd love to get one too! She is one of my favorite blog friends and such a terrific lady. Look at all the books you are reading. Nel is the book lover in the family, and I wonder if she's read any of these? I know she likes Jane Austen. Pilgrim Inn sounds interesting.

I checked out some of Carl Larsson's paintings; oh my, they are wonderful. I am seeing a lot of my blog friend's favorite portraits and artists and learning new things today. :~)

  3. Reading a good book can surely cure what ails you. And, a good book is a preventive as well.

I was considering adding A Spool of Blue Thread to my reading list, too.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog….it means so much to me, especially since I've been out of the loop for so many months!

  12. Love Elizabeth Goudge, too, and I read the first Dalhousie book this year. Want to read more. The book Beauty looks good; I've put it on my wish list, thanks for the recommendation.
So wonderful a fellow blogger has written a book!
I also wish sometimes I'd be sent to my room for a nap :)

  13. For the longest time, now, whenever I see a book, read a book, or hear about a book, I think of you, for you truly are a lover of these bound pages of mystery, intrigue, drama and romance! Plus, being the talented writer that you are, I can't wait for your OWN romantic novel; I know it will make the best seller lists across the board!

    Love you!

  17. I love to read. I lose myself in time when I read a good book. I travel to unknown places and meet so many interesting people along the way. I love the smell of a bookstore and the sound of the pages turning as I read. No Kindle or Nook here...paper books for me. I will be ordering this book also and cannot wait to read it. I've heard so many wonderful things about it! Have a wonderful read!!

  21. Dewena, I came over here just to see if you have a new post up. And I have to tell you again how much I love your Header. I know you've probably been told that many times by people, but it really is so charming, pretty, and different.

Have a beautiful weekend, and I hope it stays sunny there. I actually hear of rain this weekend here, but we sure do need it.

  22. Your reading list is wonderful! What a joy books are! And I just did a post about being a bibliomaniac. :-) I added Diana's book to my Wish List on Amazon...looks like a very interesting book!

I'm so behind with everyone these days...trying to get caught up! Sorry it had been a while since I commented on your posts!

  23. You make me smile. I love a good stack of books. Isn't it lovely to get older and have more time to read? Or maybe it is just that we make more time to read because other things just aren't as important as they once were. Dust for instance. I can close my ears to the badgering of dust much easier than when I was 30.

I am reading Wolf Hall at present. I have read all of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency books by McCall Smith but none of his Dalhousie series. I'll pick one up at the library soon. Anne Tyler, I confess I have never read one of hers. Where should I begin?

    1. Hi Nib's End, I think Anne Tyler's latter books are the best so I would start with them. They're different, they're just about life. No startling plots, just life, which is what I like.

And if you can get The Sunday Philosophy Club, the first Dalhousie novel, begin with that and read in order if possible as they do have ongoing story lines.

      Yes, dust will wait!
