The real me is the woman in this window, manual typewriter in front of her but holding a pencil posed over paper. Deer nibble at shrubbery on snow-covered lawn, fodder both for her writing and for her life. Or are they the same thing? Asking blogging help, please!
See this screen shot I took off my laptop of blog friend Kim's Exquisitely Unremarkable current post?
Notice that it does not look like her page at all? I'm getting this when I click on some blogs, no header, nothing on the side, only the title of the post above.
There is no place to leave my comments or read others comments.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
A few days ago I clicked on an email from a blogger and went to her link to a newsletter when bam, pop ups appeared like crazy.
My son helped by phone to walk me through hours of installing malware protection and clearing out all old history, which meant that I was signed out of everything. I spent yesterday trying to sign back into everything, changing passwords too in some cases.
Even then I still wasn't able to even reply to comments here on my blog or my other one. Finally switching from chrome to firefox helped that.
But keeping signed in to Blogger has proved impossible. And now leaving comments at any blogs that aren't on Blogger are impossible.
Does anyone out there know what's happening here? Or have any advice how I can fix it? I would appreciate any help so very much because googling help has proven useless.
Kim, if you've seen me visiting your blog over and over and not leaving a comment, this is the reason why!
Thank you so much for any help, dear friends, or even just for understanding why I'm not visiting until I get this straightened out! I've come close to just throwing in the blogging towel but don't want to give up yet.
Dewena
9:27 p.m. Valentine's Day: Hurrah! An important change took place between when I posted this and in disgust left my office and went to deal with the dishes. I came back and magically I was signed in to Blogger! How did that happen after 3 days of trying to over and over? I mean, I didn't do anything.
Does Blogger read our post titles? Did nice Blogger elves come fix my problem while I was in the kitchen? If they did, I'm so thankful to them.
I went back to Kim's blog and voila, no more funny page and I was able to comment! Going to bed now but back tomorrow to visit other blog friends and see if I'm still in working order, here at the Window.
God bless all! Goodnight!

Dewena, not sure what is happening on your end, but just sent you an e-mail. : )

Thank you so much, Sheri! And I was able to comment on yours--I think, I'm not certain about anything anymore!
DeleteDewena, I'm so sorry you're having trouble. And I'm so sorry that you can't see the posts correctly or comment. I know that's my favorite part of blogging. As I said in my email, I am on Blogger, but I have ads. I bet your ad blocker is the reason some blogs look different now. It's odd that it would block the ability to comment, but that's my only guess. Perhaps someone much savvier than I has another idea. Keep us posted my friend. Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Kim! For the first time since this began a few days ago, my dashboard says "signed in" to blogger. I've tried to sign in over and over and couldn't. Maybe they fixed it for me tonight? I'll try you again tonight to see if there's any change and then try more blogs tomorrow. Not giving up here!
DeleteI hate when things like this happen, it is so frustrating! I know there are some blogs I cannot comment on because of the browser I use. I have to keep flipping between Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer. It just makes no sense. Technology is one of those necessary evils. Hope things are working better! Love and hugs sweet friend!
ReplyDeleteThat is frustrating, Benita. I didn't realize how much of a loss it would be not to blog until last night I was so happy that it appeared fixed!
DeleteNow I'm wondering why Firefox takes so long to scroll? Their little earth icon just spins and spins with every move I make online anywhere.
Oh, Dewena, what a nightmare! I hope everything is fixed for good now, fingers crossed. One of my frustrations with blogger and Google is that you (I) can never talk to a real person when I'm in trouble. I'm so glad you didn't give up, we would miss you terribly!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Karen, I would miss looking over your backyard fence so much too!Hopefully now it's working nicely, except for this very slow scrolling. I must search to see if there's any help for that.
DeleteHow bizarre, Dewena - I'm glad it sorted itself out, but holy smokes, how did that even happen?
ReplyDeleteIsn't that weird, Debbie? I'm going to take it as heaven-sent if not Blogger-sent!
DeleteI’m glad it worked out in the end for you Dewena. It is totally frustrating when something like that happens unexpectedly and you know you didn’t do anything different to cause it. And goggling leads you down a rabbit hole. I recently coudln’t post any pictures on my blog using LIve Writer or BlogTouch Pro because Picasa changed something. Eventually I googled and figured it out but it drove me crazy for a while. Nothing with computers ever seems easy. But anyway, thank goodness you are back in business. We are too old for this stuff..LOL.
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty weird. So glad it fixed itself. I hate when this stuff happens on blogger and there is no where to turn for help. Crazy sometimes. Just glad you can comment again and see your blogs you follow.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kris
Dewena, gosh this is so frustrating. I am not on blogger, and I am so new at all this I will refrain from offering any advice. You have been able to post comments on my blog and I seem to be able to comment on yours. I had a post a couple of weeks ago that wasn't finished and was to go out on Sunday and it went out on Friday. All so crazy. I also think I remember reading on someone's blog that Blogger was going away. So you might want to check on that. Hope your issues will soon be resolved for you.
ReplyDeleteI think you can rest assured it was a Google internal problem and they finally got it fixed! I'm not having any commenting problems but every blog I go to now is literally COVERED UP with popping up ADS and it's so irritating. I can barely see what the post is about!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe people really want that. maybe I'm behind times though. I realize people apparently can make a lot of money from them. but I may just quit visiting them. the Geek Squad had put an ad blocker in my computer a few months ago when I had that horrible scam that almost destroyed everything. he said he did it because whatever it was came in on a pop up ad. for a few months I thoroughly enjoyed the computer. now I'm back to seeing ADS everywhere! and like you... I have done NOTHING to any settings!
it's all so strange. I keep thinking someone is watching and controlling my computer! what else are we to think? LOL! AAAGGGH!
Wow!! that was weird! I'm just glad you are back up and running and can see it all ok now. Maybe the "blogging fairies" stopped by to work some magic. LOL
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Dewena,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that all is well once again! There is nothing more frustrating than trying to read or comment on a favorite blog and not being able to. I know my own blog is still misbehaving and it's downright maddening.
I hope you have a fabulous weekend!
Jemma
Glad it worked out for you. I would have been no help! It is frustrating for sure. xo
ReplyDeleteI wonder if some of the issues were caused by Google getting rid of Google+? Not that I know anything about technology. Haha. Regardless, I'm happy things "magically" fixed themselves!
ReplyDeleteYou know what.. one of my blog friends Lavender Dreams her blog just vanished on me.. then I tried an hour later and it was back? Not sure what is going on.. as the saying goes "I like technology and hate technology"
ReplyDeleteLove, Carla
So glad you got most of the problems sorted out, Dewena - I don't think we ever have everything running smoothly when it comes to search engines and Google, etc.!
ReplyDeleteBeen there, done that, so know that there are brighter, no nonsense days ahead in Cyberspace!
Poppy
Dewena,
ReplyDeleteI was having trouble too....glad you are back up and able to read and comment. Hope all is well! Linda
