"Yes, it's a wonderful day,
an August day,
the beginning of the end of summer."
Ann Batchelder
in Ladies' Home Journal
August 1950
August First is always a special day for me and my sisters.
This year it is even more special because it is our parents'
75th wedding anniversary.
Although our father is in his heavenly home now,
our mother is 92 years young.
And we all know that he is very real to her,
often has just stepped out of the room
or is working in his garden.
Happy Anniversary, dear Mama and Daddy!
We love you!
Dewena, Your parents are a handsome couple. Blessings to all of you. xoxo, Susie

have you ever noticed that pictures of young couples in the 40's ... every one of them look as if they were film stars.
ReplyDeletethey are simply very beautiful to look at!
and then to know there are those fortunate enough to have such long and wonderful lives together. he came home safe. they worked hard and had beautiful children together. and the memories are shared now of good food and family ties. and their legacy is being carried on.
and your little mama. being visited by your daddy who is as real to her as when he was here.
and when she does get to join him for real it will be the sweetest reunion there is!
until then ... she has the joy of knowing he's still right there... just out in the garden.
I send you all my love darling sister mine.

Happy Anniversary to them and all of you who joined the celebration :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary to a beautiful couple! I love the pictures!
ReplyDeleteI do so love family pictures. Both my grandfathers died long before my grandmothers, who never re-married. And though Daddy was nearly 10 years older than Mama, both lost their fathers when they were 21. My mama's father was killed in a hit and run when he was walking home from a tiny store near them. It happened 10 days before Christmas Day. Daddy's father had a quick moving cancer. These men both died at age 49! My daddy passed away when I was 21, leaving my mother to live 40 more years, never marrying again! Your parents look so dear and cute!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful pictures of your darling parents! How wonderful that you still have your sweet mother with you! Happy 75th anniversary to them, and I can imagine that the love of her life is very near her in spirit. Enjoyed this lovely post today :)
