Remembering Mr. Bradbury

Born August 22, 1920

In my later years, I have looked in the mirror each day and found a happy person staring back. Occasionally I wonder why I can be so happy. The answer is that every day of my life I've worked only for myself and for the joy that comes from writing and creating.

  1. I wasn't too familiar with this fellow, so I read a little about him. Interesting. He sure lived a long life. It sounds like his writing made him very happy. Love this picture of him you shared, Dewena.

  2. I'm a fan of Ray Bradbury's work. His writing showed great insight into our changing world, and offered caution that I fear has not be taken.

  3. my husband Bob was the science fiction buff in the family. I cannot believe I've never read Bradbury. even the famous Fahrenheit book that got such acclaim and was really more about censure ship! but that picture above makes me like the man! his wit especially. and to start writing at such a young age and never miss a day! and to love his life doing what he did! oh my.
Bob was a great fan of the mind of a good science fiction writer. he read a lot of H.G. Wells too. and said they are the seers into the future... which I find fascinating in itself!

  5. Sounds like Mr. Bradbury loved what he did and set an example for how we all should live our life. I am familiar with him but did not read too many of his books.
    May he rest in peace.
    Have a great week.
    Hugs,
    Kris

  6. I am a new member of the Bradbury Fan Club. I recently read and loved his book of essays 'Zen in the Art of Writing'. Shall have to look for some of his other works.

That's a wonderful quote you shared, Dewena. Thank you!!

  7. Oh...if all of us could say this. His name sounds very familiar. You quoted a passage from Dandelion Wishes on your other blog, and it was so sensitive and ernest. Thank you, Dewena. Always wonderful to learn something new. He lived a very long and happy life.

  8. I love this photo of Ray Bradbury, Dewena, which I believe you've shared before, since I recall it making an impression on me, then.

The author definitely looks relaxed and happy, doesn't he? Reading his words, below the pic, completely clarifies his expression of cheery content. Who wouldn't be satisfied with life, being able to do what one desires, every single day of it? He was blessed with talent, motivation and perhaps an acute perception of things to come.

So many of us bloggers are aspiring writers and creators, and the fact that we can pen our own posts for anyone who might find them interesting, brings joy to our own day, especially when we connect to our readers, and in some cases, are lucky to have become life-long friends!;))

Wishing you a wonderfully inspiring week ahead!

    xoxo

  9. And behind the famous man, there is a great woman. Kudos to Maggie McClure, his wife, for supporting the family (4 children plus parents) for 6 years while he was writing. All of us either stand on the backs of wo/men or the shoulders of giants.

  10. Great quote (on your other blog, too!) from a wonderful writer. He was from Waukegan, IL - a town just 40 minutes east of here.

  11. So glad you stopped by, Dewena! and that you liked the post about the sunsets and the fleeting years. Time sure does fly by these days, doesn't it? You mentioned your two little granddaughters will be visting soon, you must be anticipating that very much! How old are they and I don't remember---do they come a long way to come visit? Don't remember if they are very far away or not.... I bet you have plenty of fun things planned!! I am sure relishing all our time with this granddaughter, it is so precious. It's almost the weekend!--hope you have a great one!

  13. I haven't read any of Ray Bradbury's works, but I've read what he has to say about writing. Such insight! I really should read one of his books, lol! I'm curious, what are the books that you've read that are set in Wisconsin? It is a beautiful state. My son and his family really love it there.

  14. It used to bother me that my books aren't bestsellers - but I have come to the conclusion that I write for me and if I should ever stop I'd be most unhappy.
